Although the final result against Blantyre Vics was disappointing, I felt we were very much in it until they scored their second goal, after which we seemed to collapse as we pushed to get back into the game. One positive was that we fielded several young players and the experience will only do them good in the long run.
Despite the fact that we have by no means written off this season, we need to begin looking toward next season and it’s an opportunity to give some younger players experience between now and the end of the campaign. We’ll also look at who we can add to the squad in preparation for the start of next season and hopefully this extra planning will allow us to hit the ground running. Although I believe the end of retention is more likely to benefit the bigger clubs, there may be an opportunity to attract players who have been out of the game as a result of the retention rule and that’s an avenue we can possibly explore.
Finally, with the committee, supporters, players and management pulling in the same direction and working towards the same goal, I believe we can bring success to the club.
