Manager’s Column – 4th March 2013

I was bitterly disappointed with our performance against Vale of Leven on Saturday, especially the goals we lost. We cannot concede goals in the manner we did or give teams three goals of a start. We defended appallingly at times, especially considering our good defensive record earlier in the season. On reflection, we did create a number of chances but we need to start taking them and I also thought Yamikani Misanjo showed up well on his first start. It’s a long time since we’ve won and I’ve stressed to the players that it’s imperative we get back to winning ways. We set a standard which we’ve fallen well below and which we have to get back to. It’s going to be extremely difficult to gain promotion now but I can assure the fans it’s not something we’ve given up on.

The Cup match with local rivals Lanark is one we’re looking forward to, the players know it’s a derby match and what’s at stake and it’s important we go out and try and win this game.

We’re working hard behind the scenes to improve the squad, it’s a challenge but one which we’re determined to rise up and meet. To that end, we’ll be running the rule over several players at training this week and we’re talking to three others with a view to them coming to Kingshill. I believe we’ve a good group of players at the club but we know we’re light on numbers and that this needs to be addressed. Our aim is to bring the best players we possibly can to the club.
