Johnstone Burgh 3 Forth 0
The Wanderers lost their final game of the season 3-0 to Johnstone Burgh at Keanie Park, the result seeing the home side promoted to the Central 1st Division. Forth were down to the bare bones and only had 12 players stripped for the match but despite that started the game on the front foot against a nervous looking Burgh side.
Craig Crawford had an early header which the home keeper Wilson did well to touch on to the bar although the referee inexplicably gave a foul against the Forth man before waving away strong Forth claims for a penalty when the lively Chris Gordon was clearly tripped in the box. Burgh took full advantage of this let off and opened the scoring on 15 minutes through Fitzpatrick who fired low past Hutchison in the Forth goal. The home side seemed to derive confidence from this and began to dominate and only a couple of fine saves from Hutchison stopped them from increasing their lead. The big stopper could do nothing just prior to the interval though, when Ramsay doubled the hosts advantage with a neat close range finish.
The second half began as the first ended with Burgh on the front foot and only several fine stops from Hutchison denied them further goals. The Wanderers were failing to trouble the home defence to any great degree, although a good Misanjo run ended with McGroarty having a shot which was deflected by a defender into Wilson’s arms. Burgh continued to attack at every opportunity and were rewarded in the final minutes when Ramsay notched another to spark the promotion celebrations.
A disappointing end to a disappointing season for Forth, but with the new management team in place we look forward to the new season with confidence.
